Weaving Heritage into the Future

At Yayasan JCorp, we believe tradition isn’t meant to be preserved in glass — it’s meant to be lived, worn, and passed on. That’s why we’ve partnered with Johor Heritage Foundation to bring Kain Benang Johor back to life through a bold, three-pillar initiative that honours craftsmanship, empowers people, and breathes new energy into one of Johor’s proudest cultural legacies.

1.Building the Foundation: Infrastructure & Equipment

To sustain a living heritage, we need the right tools. We’ve equipped our weaving centre with five traditional looms (kek) and a preliminary processing machine — essential upgrades that strengthen production capacity and keep this centuries-old art form alive and thriving.

2.Perintis Johor: Reviving the Legacy of Johor’s Traditional Weaving

Yayasan JCorp proudly introduced the Perintis Johor – Intensive Foundational Course in Johor Traditional Weaving, a six-month structured training programme aimed at nurturing young artisans and preserving Johor’s rich cultural heritage.

From 15 October 2025 to 15 April 2026, ten selected participants will undergo hands-on training, mentorship, and skill development in the intricate art of traditional weaving. The programme not only equips participants with technical mastery but also empowers them to transform heritage into sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Outstanding participants will have the opportunity to further their studies at the National Craft Institute, where they will pursue a Level 3 Skills Certificate in Weaving. Upon completion, these top five trainees may be appointed as full-time weavers under Johor Heritage Foundation. Meanwhile, other participants will be offered the chance to serve as assistant weavers, continuing to contribute to Johor’s traditional craft industry.

Through this initiative, Perintis Johor continues Yayasan JCorp’s mission to empower youth, preserve heritage, and sustain the timeless artistry of Johor’s traditional crafts.

3. Elevating the Craft: Promotion & Awareness

Heritage deserves a spotlight. Through exhibitions, creative programmes, and strategic partnerships, we’re introducing Kain Benang Johor to new audiences — from fashion houses to cultural institutions — while sparking fresh conversations around its relevance in today’s world.

We’re also investing in innovation and product development to inspire modern applications of traditional textiles — opening doors for artisans to reimagine their craft and explore new markets.

This isn’t just about preserving the past — it’s about weaving tradition into the fabric of the future. One thread at a time, we’re turning cultural pride into community opportunity.
